Registration closes August 18th. Instructor: Margaret Ross, MSW, School-Based Mental Health Therapist at The Florida Center for Early Childhood and a Certified Children's Yoga Instructor This course will demonstrate the importance of the connection between the physical body and the mind and emotions. Attendees will understand the importance of normalizing strong emotions for children and helping improve their self-efficacy in regulating themselves. The course will also demonstrate ways to make relaxation and healthy movement techniques accessible and fun for children. Objectives: 1) Describe the function of emotions, explain emotions are neither "good" nor "bad." The important thing is how we handle them (healthy coping skills). 2) Define mindfulness and explain how it can impact children's emotional development. 3) Name and describe various age-appropriate mindful and movement-based techniques to help children with self-regulation such as breathing, muscle relaxation, stretching/yoga, etc.
